From Patient to Advocate: Physiotherapist Champions Charity That Aided Her Healing Journey After Devastating Accident

An NHS physiotherapist who suffered a fractured spine, pelvis, and shoulder after being struck by a taxi just minutes after finishing her shift has endorsed a charity that aided her recovery.

Chloe Boobier, 30, was employed at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading when the accident occurred on London Road in February 2021.

She spent several weeks receiving treatment in the trauma and orthopaedic ward of the very hospital where she had worked, before moving back in with her mother for an extended period.

During her recovery, Ms. Boobier received support from Day One Trauma Support, which reported assisting 2,400 individuals in the previous year, with the demand continuing to rise.

Currently, Ms. Boobier works as a physiotherapist specializing in care for amputees at Charing Cross Hospital in London.

She mentioned that while she had previously suggested Day One to her patients in Reading, she turned to them for assistance following her accident.

“They provided us with kindness, understanding, and practical support when it was needed the most,” she stated.

“I realize many individuals leave the hospital facing life-altering injuries without a proper support network. This is where Day One truly makes an impact, offering guidance, connections, and someone who comprehends the nature of that initial recovery phase.”
