Afghan Refugee Charged with Murder in Uxbridge Stabbing Spree: Trial Set for 2024

An Afghan migrant has faced charges in court for allegedly fatally stabbing a dog walker in Uxbridge, west London, and injuring two others.

Safi Dawood, 22, is being prosecuted for the murder of 49-year-old Wayne Broadhurst, as well as for the attempted murder of his landlord and a 14-year-old boy, which occurred on October 27.

During a hearing at the Old Bailey on Monday, Mr. Dawood confirmed his identity via videolink from Wandsworth prison, as Judge Mark Lucraft KC established a timeline for the proceedings.

A plea hearing is scheduled for January 12, with a provisional trial expected to last up to three weeks starting on July 20 next year.

The court was informed that Mr. Dawood is an Afghan refugee who is permitted to stay in the UK until 2027.

It is reported that he was set to vacate his accommodation in Uxbridge just three days before the knife assault on October 27.

On the day of the incident, his landlord, Shahzad Farrukh, 45, allegedly discovered him wielding a large knife in the annex where Mr. Dawood was residing.

Mr. Farrukh fled the house seeking help from neighbors in Midhurst Gardens. One neighbor attempted to defend herself by swinging her walking stick at Dawood, which caused him to retreat, according to court statements.

The defendant is also believed to have assaulted a 14-year-old boy before attacking Mr. Broadhurst, who was a complete stranger to him.

Prosecutor Deanna Heer KC outlined the charges, explaining, “The murder victim, Wayne Broadhurst, simply happened to be passing by. He was walking his dog when the defendant targeted him. He was attacked with the knife, causing Mr. Broadhurst to fall to the ground, where he was stabbed multiple times.”

Ms. Heer noted that despite the immediate efforts of emergency personnel, Mr. Broadhurst succumbed to his injuries at the scene, having sustained numerous stab wounds to his neck, chest, and side.

Mr. Farrukh underwent surgery for significant injuries and remains hospitalized.

The teenager suffered injuries to his hands but was discharged from the hospital the same day.

Mr. Dawood was apprehended near the site of the attacks and subsequently charged with Mr. Broadhurst’s murder, as well as the attempted murder of Mr. Farrukh and the unnamed 14-year-old boy.

Additionally, Dawood faces a charge for possessing an offensive weapon.

He has been remanded in custody.

Air India victims were foundation of our family Текст: A couple who were killed in the Air India crash were the foundation of our family, their granddaughters have said. All but one of the 242 people on board the London Gatwick-bound aircraft died when it crashed into a residential area in Ahmedabad, western India, shortly after take-off on Thursday. After attending a wedding, 72-year-old Adam Taju and his wife Hasina, 70, were flying back to the UK with their 51-year-old son-in-law Altafhusen Patel, who also lived in London with his wife Shamim. Their granddaughter, Ammaarah Taju, from Blackburn, Lancashire, said to lose them so suddenly, without a goodbye, without one last embrace, is a pain too deep for words. There were 53 Britons on board the aircraft, along with 169 Indian nationals, seven Portuguese nationals and one Canadian. Flight AI171 struggled to gain altitude after taking off and crashed after 30 seconds. A mayday call was transmitted to air traffic control, said Indias aviation regulator. A senior health official in Ahmedabad has told the BBC that at least eight people who were not board the Boeing 787 Dreamliner also died in the crash. Paying tribute with her three sisters, Ammaarah Taju, 28, said: The thought of never hearing your voices again feels unreal. We are the end of your legacy, the branches of the tree you nurtured, and now we have to carry forward everything you taught us. Dada and Dadi, you were the foundation of our family, the love that kept us close and the wisdom that guided us. The sisters said their legacy was woven into every part of us and your lessons, your love, your unwavering support will live on. We wish we had the chance to tell you one last time just how much we love you, to thank you for everything you did for us, they added. The reality of losing you both like this is impossible to comprehend, and the pain runs deeper than words can express. Life is fleeting, and we never imagined we would lose you together, in such a tragic way.
