Alonso Explains Why Mbappe Gave Up Penalty to Vinicius in Match Against Valencia

The head coach of Real Madrid, Xabi Alonso, explained why the team’s designated penalty taker, Kylian Mbappé, chose to let winger Vinícius Júnior take a penalty during the 11th round of La Liga against Valencia, which ended in a 4-0 victory. Unfortunately, the Brazilian player was unable to convert the penalty.

“– Why did Mbappé hand the penalty to Vinícius when he himself is aiming to win the Golden Boot again?”
“– Well, he scored two goals. The team spirit is fantastic, and the relationship between Mbappé and Vinícius is excellent,” Alonso stated at the post-match press conference.

Mbappé netted goals in the 19th and 31st minutes of the match.

On Friday, October 31, the French player was awarded the Golden Boot for the previous season, in which he scored 31 goals in 34 La Liga matches.
