Stephen Lawrence’s father insists that one of his son’s murderers must reveal the identities of the other attackers before he can be considered safe for release from prison.

David Norris is scheduled to request his release on license during a Parole Board hearing on Tuesday, 13 years after receiving a life sentence.

The only two individuals who have faced justice for the racially motivated stabbing of the 18-year-old in Eltham, south London, in April 1993 are Norris and Gary Dobson. Four other suspects remain unconvicted.

Dr. Neville Lawrence, Stephen’s father, expressed to BBC News: “For me to believe that [Norris] is safe to be released, he must disclose the names of those who were with him that evening.”

Law enforcement has consistently maintained that there were six assailants, a claim supported by Stephen’s friend Duwayne Brooks, who witnessed the attack.

Out of the original prime suspects, brothers Neil and Jamie Acourt, along with Luke Knight, have not been convicted and continue to live freely.

A sixth individual, Matthew White—who was first identified publicly by the BBC two years ago—passed away in 2021 at the age of 50.

For many years, Norris famously denied his participation in the murder, maintaining silence in police interviews and proclaiming his innocence at trial.

However, it was revealed earlier this year that he confessed to his involvement while incarcerated, stating to prison staff that he was present at the scene, struck Stephen, but did not stab him.

Norris’s acknowledgment has led to a remarkable predicament: he is attempting to secure his release from prison for a crime he admits to committing, even as many of those truly responsible have yet to face justice.
