A movement aimed at preserving two structures in the City of London has secured the opportunity to present its argument before the High Court to prevent their demolition.
The City of London Corporation (CLC) plans to tear down Bastion House and the former Museum of London located in the Barbican area, intending to replace them with three office buildings ranging from five to 17 stories high.
However, the advocacy group Barbican Quarter Organisation (BQO) argues that the proposed development will lead to an overall increase in carbon dioxide emissions. They have sought a judicial review, which has now been approved based on environmental considerations.
The CLC has opted not to provide any comments.
The corporation, which is both the applicant and the planning authority, has stated that the initiative is essential for meeting its objective of generating an additional 1.2 million square meters of office space by 2040.
