Authorities have published CCTV footage of a man they wish to interview following an incident in which a woman was attacked by an intruder attempting to gain entry into her residence in central London.
The incident took place around 23:40 BST on July 30, when the woman encountered an unfamiliar individual in the hallway of her apartment building on New Cavendish Street in Westminster, according to the Metropolitan Police.
After confronting the intruder, he pursued her into her apartment, where he covered her mouth and attempted to force his way inside. Fortunately, the woman’s partner, who was present in the flat, was able to scare the intruder away, according to police reports.
Detective Constable Chunjie Zang characterized the event as a “deeply troubling occurrence” that has caused considerable distress to the victim and her family.
“No one should have to endure such threats within their own home. While no other similar incidents have been reported in the vicinity, we are resolute in our commitment to ensuring the perpetrator is held accountable,” Det Con Zang stated.
The Metropolitan Police expressed their desire to identify the individual captured in the CCTV images, who is described as white, approximately 5 feet 9 inches (1.75 meters) tall, and balding.
He was last seen wearing a grey T-shirt paired with blue jeans, and was later observed in a brown hoodie.
Authorities noted that the man spoke with a non-British accent, which may have been Scandinavian, Australian, or New Zealand in origin.
Anyone with information regarding the man is encouraged to reach out to the police.
