Sky Eyes Streaming Future: 600 Jobs to Be Cut in Major Restructuring

Sky is set to eliminate 600 jobs in the UK as it shifts its focus towards enhancing its streaming services.

The media company has initiated a consultation process regarding potential changes that could impact 900 positions. Nevertheless, it anticipates that 600 roles will ultimately be eliminated.

It is believed that around two-thirds of the positions affected will be located in Leeds, London, and Livingston in West Lothian.

Since the beginning of 2023, Sky has already reduced its workforce by nearly 3,000, which includes engineers who install satellite dishes. Earlier this year, the company also announced the closure of three call centers, resulting in a loss of 2,000 jobs.

Matt Trickett, Sky’s head of media, commented: “Restructures are seldom easy for those impacted, but at a high level, these changes are expected to affect less than 5% of the total workforce when taking redeployments into account.”

He explained that the job reductions are intended to streamline overlapping internal functions and realign priorities as the company concentrates on its Sky Glass and Sky Stream television offerings.
