Medvedev Links U.S. Political Violence to Ukraine Support Following Death of Charlie Kirk

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev asserted on Thursday that the West’s backing of Ukraine is connected to an increase in political violence in the United States, following the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk during a speaking event at a Utah university.

In a televised address from the Oval Office on Wednesday night, U.S. President Donald Trump condemned the incident, attributing it to the rhetoric of the “radical left.” Kirk, a close associate of Trump, gained recognition by engaging in debates with university students nationwide and founded the conservative youth organization Turning Point USA.

The Utah state police have initiated a search for Kirk’s shooter.

In the aftermath of the shooting, Medvedev, who now holds the position of deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, pointed to the rise in politically motivated violence in the U.S. in recent years, which includes two assassination attempts on Trump, blaming “various left-wing liberal elements who back Banderite Kyiv.”

“Who could be next? Perhaps it’s time for the MAGA movement to understand that by supporting Ukraine, they are aiding murderers,” Medvedev stated in an English-language post on X.

He did not expand on his comments, which echo many of the extreme and provocative statements he has made since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

There was no immediate response from U.S. officials to Medvedev’s remarks, but his previous online statements have drawn sharp criticism from high-ranking White House staff and even Trump.

In August, the U.S. president mentioned the deployment of two nuclear submarines in reaction to what he described as “provocative comments” made by Medvedev, who had previously alluded to potential nuclear strikes against the West.
