Fernandes Reveals: Financial Incentives Led Me to Russia Instead of Staying in Turkey

Former midfielder of Lokomotiv and Krasnodar, **[Manuel Fernandes](https://www.example.com/tags/4402-manujel-fernandesh/)**, admitted that his move to Russia was primarily motivated by financial reasons.

**— Was your contract with Lokomotiv the biggest of your career?**
— Yes, it was. And to be honest, if it hadn’t been for the financial incentives, I would not have moved to Russia and would have stayed in Turkey. I was already very familiar with the club, the city, and the country. The money was the main factor that influenced my decision to join Lokomotiv. People often don’t understand this. For them, football is about emotions, but for players, it’s a job, — said Fernandes, as reported by Sport24.

Fernandes played for Lokomotiv from 2015 to 2019, winning the Russian championship and the national cup three times with the team. Now, at 38 years old, he has also played for English clubs Portsmouth and Everton, as well as the Portuguese side Benfica, the Spanish club Valencia, and Turkish team Beşiktaş.
