A drone strike by Ukraine targeted an apartment building in the southwestern Russian city of Kursk, resulting in one fatality and injuring 12 individuals, according to the region’s acting governor, who reported the incident early Friday.

“Regrettably, a 45-year-old woman was killed instantly,” Governor Alexander Khinshtein stated on Telegram. He later informed reporters that 12 people sustained injuries during the attacks that occurred overnight.

Khinshtein inspected the destruction caused by the strike in the eastern administrative district of the city, located 100 kilometers (62 miles) from the Ukrainian border.

Images and videos shared on his channel depicted a severely charred nine-story structure, with Khinshtein noting that a total of 11 buildings and 50 vehicles were impacted by the blast waves.

The Russian Defense Ministry indicated that its air defense systems intercepted drones across nine Russian regions, including 13 over Kursk and the Sea of Azov.

The governor of the adjacent Belgorod region reported that three individuals were hurt due to drone strikes overnight and in the early morning. The governors of the Bryansk and Rostov regions acknowledged property damage but reported no injuries.

Civil aviation authorities temporarily suspended flights at four regional airports where military officials claimed to have intercepted Ukrainian drones.

Additionally, Ukrainian drones struck a Russian oil refinery in the central city of Syzran, approximately 800 kilometers (500 miles) from the frontline.

According to Ukraine’s general staff, “The Syzran oil refinery in the Samara region, one of the largest within the Rosneft system, was attacked,” referring to the network of facilities owned by the Russian state energy corporation Rosneft.

The facility was noted for producing aviation fuel for the Russian military.

Unverified social media posts displayed images of numerous fires and thick gray smoke rising from the site early on Friday.
