Hollywood actor Steven Seagal has severed connections with one of his few remaining business operations in Russia, as reported by the business newspaper Kommersant on Tuesday.
The 73-year-old Seagal, who obtained Russian citizenship in 2016, resigned from his position as CEO of Five Elements LLC on July 17, according to a corporate database referenced by Kommersant. Established in 2023, the company was jointly owned by Seagal and his son, Dominic Seagal.
Ownership of the firm has now been handed over to Vladislav Kazak, a member of the board at the construction company Vodstroy JSC.
Kommersant mentioned that Seagal has already exited from the majority of his other Russian enterprises, such as Russian Fairs LLC, Steven Seagal Group LLC, and Gorki Investment Company LLC.
Nonetheless, he retains a 26% interest in Gorki Holding Company LLC, which aims to launch an International Center of Eastern Martial Arts.
Legal experts highlighted by Kommersant noted that current U.S. sanctions prevent American citizens from making new investments in Russia, with potential penalties for any violations.
Seagal has been a vocal supporter of President Vladimir Putin and received the Order of Friendship in 2023 for his role in fostering relations between Russia and the United States.
In 2022, he faced backlash after visiting a prison in occupied eastern Ukraine where at least 50 Ukrainian POWs had died. The visit, which was part of a planned documentary, received acclaim from pro-Kremlin individuals.
