According to authorities on Monday, a lightning strike at a resort by the river in Russia’s Tula region, approximately 120 kilometers (75 miles) south of Moscow, resulted in the deaths of three individuals and injuries to four more.

A man and woman from Moscow, along with a local teenage boy, succumbed to their injuries before ambulances could reach the Shakhtyor resort, as reported by the state-backed TASS news agency, citing local health officials.

The Telegram channel Baza, which is associated with Russian law enforcement, shared a photo that seemingly depicted a man’s body on the riverbank near the resort. It named the deceased as a 55-year-old man, a 50-year-old woman, and a 13-year-old boy.

Two women were taken to the hospital, with one in critical condition, while a man and a teenage boy received care on-site.

Regional prosecutors announced that they have initiated an investigation into potential safety infringements.

In a statement, they declared, “Prosecutors will review the beach area for necessary safety measures and scrutinize records pertaining to the beach’s operations.”

This event occurred during heavy thunderstorms that impacted central Russia following a recent heat wave over the weekend.
