Quick-Thinking Fire Brigade Saves Tortoise and Dog from Blaze in South London Flat

A tortoise that ignited a fire has been saved from the fourth story of an apartment building in south London.

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) rapidly responded after the slow-moving tortoise accidentally toppled a heat lamp, igniting the hay in its habitat on London Road in Mitcham this past Thursday.

Additionally, a black dog was found hiding under the stairs and was safely reunited with its grateful owner following the incident, which occurred around 11:40 BST, according to the LFB.

Fire crews from Mitcham, Wimbledon, Tooting, and Wallington managed to bring the blaze under control by approximately 12:20.
