An area that once served as a rifle range and undercroft near Blackfriars Bridge may be repurposed as either a skatepark or an energy facility.
Since 2017, this location has been utilized by Bazalgette Tunnel Ltd for the construction of the Thames Tideway Tunnel.
It will revert to either the City of London Corporation or Transport for London once the rightful legal owner is identified.
Thames Water will oversee the management of the foreshore, which will feature a café.
The shooting range was closed to facilitate tunneling work and is located beneath the undercroft.
A report from the corporation highlighted that the undercroft had a “historical link with antisocial behavior” and has remained inaccessible, surrounded by hoardings for many years.
There are currently three redevelopment proposals under consideration for the site:
A spokesperson from the corporation indicated that the location is still being utilized for storing materials related to the Tideway Tunnel.
In early 2026, an additional report detailing the costs associated with each proposed reuse option will be submitted to the City of London Corporation committee.
