Cricket Takes Center Stage: 943 Kids Unite for Guinness World Record-Breaking Lesson at Lords

A charity dedicated to promoting cricket among children is rejoicing after breaking a Guinness World Record for hosting the largest cricket lesson ever.

The record, established on Monday, involved 943 participants, surpassing the previous record of 645 set in Birmingham in 2022.

Chance to Shine focuses on bringing cricket into state schools, especially in underprivileged areas.

Kids from 35 schools across the nation gathered at Lord’s Cricket Ground in St John’s Wood, north London, to join in this momentous occasion.

As Chance to Shine celebrates its 20th anniversary, it proudly notes that it has impacted over seven million children since its inception.

Kate Stephens from the charity remarked that playing cricket encourages children to consider their varied talents and abilities.

“They can carry that mindset into the classroom, which significantly contributes to their personal development.

“It embodies the essence of teamwork, while also highlighting the importance of individual contributions.

“In cricket, whether you’re batting, bowling, fielding, or catching, every member of the team plays a vital role.”

Glenn Pollard, an official adjudicator from Guinness World Records, was present to bestow the certificate of achievement.

Celebrity supporter Fury, known from the BBC TV show Gladiators, shared her thoughts: “There’s such a diverse group of kids here—some may be shy, like I was growing up. This is an excellent opportunity to connect with others, collaborate, and learn new skills.

“I think that’s fantastic, not to mention having a fun day.”

Rob Ellington, a teacher from James Elliman Academy in Slough, described the event as “the most significant day of the year for these children.”

“It’s a unique opportunity they’ve never encountered before. For me, witnessing the boost in their confidence and seeing everything it brings them makes it a truly special day for our students.”
