Turkish Airlines suspended almost two dozen flights between Russia and Turkey on Monday due to ongoing Ukrainian drone strikes, which have persisted for the seventh consecutive day.
The Association of Tour Operators of Russia reported that at least 13 flights from Vnukovo Airport in Moscow to Turkish destinations such as Istanbul, Antalya, and Bodrum were canceled. Additionally, five more flights from Pulkovo Airport in St. Petersburg to Istanbul and Antalya were also called off, as noted by the business publication Kommersant. To assist affected travelers, Turkish Airlines arranged for hotel accommodations and reissued tickets.
On the same day, Russian aviation authorities imposed temporary flight restrictions in and out of several cities, including Moscow, due to safety concerns linked to the ongoing drone attacks.
Moscow’s Mayor Sergei Sobyanin stated that air defense systems successfully intercepted at least four Ukrainian drones that were approaching the city overnight.
According to data from the business outlet RBC, Moscow airports have implemented 51 flight restrictions totaling 65.5 hours over the past week.
On May 8, Turkish Airlines had canceled numerous flights bound for Russia after heavy drone attacks over two days led to extensive airspace closures, causing significant disruptions for thousands of travelers.
