Former Spandau Ballet lead singer Ross Davidson is reportedly accused of telling a woman he allegedly raped that he desired to engage in sexual acts with a “motionless, unresponsive” individual, according to court testimony.

The woman, whose identity is protected for legal reasons, claims that in March 2015, she awoke in Davidson’s London apartment to find him assaulting her, a charge he contests.

In testimony at Wood Green Crown Court, she recounted that prior to the alleged assault, they had engaged in a conversation about his fantasy of having “intercourse with a mannequin,” and she also informed the jury that he placed a collar around her neck without her consent.

Davidson, 37, known on stage as Ross Wild, was associated with the pop group Spandau Ballet in 2018 and had a role in the West End musical We Will Rock You, which celebrates Queen’s music.

She stated in court, “[He] indicated that he was intrigued by the idea of sexual intimacy with a mannequin or a person in a vulnerable state who wasn’t moving.”

Jurors were also informed that he placed her in a collar and wrist restraints for approximately 20 minutes without her consent, leaving her feeling “confused” and in “a state of shock,” although he complied with her request to remove the restraints.

This discussion about mannequins occurred prior to the alleged assault, on a date not specified, and the claimant suggested during the trial, “At first, he referred to models, and I assumed he meant attractive individuals.”

In response, defense attorney Charlotte Newell KC remarked that the dialogue was clearly sexual in nature, later clarifying that it pertained to someone “pretending to be asleep” rather than genuinely being in that state.

The complainant testified that Davidson had never solicited her for such activities.

The two had connected through a dating application and met in person twice over the years; they engaged in consensual sexual encounters on both occasions, including multiple times just days before the alleged rape, the court has heard.

Davidson is additionally facing charges of attempted rape and sexual assault regarding another woman after he allegedly recorded himself groping her in Thailand in 2019, which he also denies.

The jury has been informed that Davidson admitted to a voyeurism charge related to the same woman in Thailand in December 2019.

The trial is ongoing.
