PM: Thames Water Shareholder Payouts Unfair Amid Financial Strain for Consumers

Sir Keir Starmer has criticized the dividends disbursed to Thames Water shareholders as unjust, particularly in light of escalating bills.

The Prime Minister made these remarks following a meeting with local residents to address cost-of-living concerns at the Emmer Green Community Centre in Reading, Berkshire.

In November, Thames Water was among six utility companies prohibited from awarding bonuses to their executives due to serious pollution incidents and other significant performance issues.

In response to the Prime Minister’s statements, Thames Water emphasized that it plans to invest £20 billion from 2025 to 2030 to enhance its infrastructure and noted that it did not distribute any dividends or performance-related compensation to its executive directors last year.
