An 84-year-old individual has been accused of 47 historical offenses related to child sexual abuse.

According to the Metropolitan Police, the alleged incidents occurred between the late 1960s and 2010 in various locations, including London, Kent, Portugal, Turkey, and Hungary.

The accusations involve nine distinct male victims, who were aged between eight and 14 at the time of the alleged offenses.

Edward Sweeney, residing on Welbeck Avenue in Sidcup, southeast London, faces charges that include three counts of raping a child under 13, 27 counts of indecent assault, five counts of indecency, seven counts of sexual assault on a child, and five counts related to causing or enticing a child to engage in sexual activity.

He is scheduled to make an appearance at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on 9 February.
