Deadly Drone Strike in Kursk: Civilian Casualties Amid Ongoing Conflict

Ukrainian drone assaults in the southwestern Kursk region resulted in the death of one man and left a firefighter wounded, according to regional authorities reported on Friday afternoon.

Governor of the Kursk region, Alexander Khinshtein, stated that a 57-year-old civilian was fatally injured while cycling when the drone attack occurred, approximately 10 kilometers (6 miles) from the northeastern Ukrainian border near Sumy region.

Additionally, on the same day, in a separate drone incident in Kursk, a firefighter was taken to the hospital with burn injuries, Khinshtein noted.

Although Russia’s Defense Ministry did not confirm any Ukrainian drone strikes on Friday, it mentioned that nearly 20 unmanned aerial vehicles had been intercepted in the airspace over annexed Crimea and the Black Sea between the morning and early afternoon hours.

Earlier, the Defense Ministry reported that 77 Ukrainian drones were downed overnight across Crimea, the Black Sea, and seven regions of Russia.

Both Ukraine and Russia consistently conduct drone and missile strikes within each other’s territories, with officials in Kyiv defending their actions as a response to Russia’s comprehensive invasion and ongoing control of Ukrainian lands.

Notably, since the summer, Ukraine has increased its attacks on Russia’s energy infrastructure to diminish Moscow’s oil revenues, which constitute a significant funding source for its military operations.
