Ukrainian Drones Strike Key Industrial Targets Across Russia

Dozens of Ukrainian drones targeted industrial facilities throughout Russia late on Sunday and into early Monday morning, according to reports from Russian media and government officials.

These strikes occurred in successive waves, with the Russian Ministry of Defense stating that it shot down 96 Ukrainian drones overnight and an additional 12 on Monday morning across various regions. Consequently, aviation authorities suspended flights to and from several cities, including Moscow.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin mentioned that at least 10 drones were intercepted near the capital. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties from the attacks in the vicinity of Moscow or in other regions.

In Tatarstan, located over 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) from the Ukrainian border, air defense systems were reportedly activated near the town of Yelabuga, which houses the Alabuga industrial zone, a significant supplier of drones for the Russian military.

The Alabuga industrial zone was previously attacked by Ukrainian drones in April 2024.

In the Ivanovo region, approximately 800 kilometers (500 miles) from the border, local officials indicated that drones inflicted damage on facilities in an unspecified industrial area early Monday. Some residents alleged that the Dmitriyevsky Chemical Plant was affected, though this has not been confirmed by authorities.

Andriy Kovalenko, spokesperson for the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council, stated that the plant manufactures components for Russian military equipment, including missiles.

Furthermore, residents reported hearing explosions overnight at NPO Splav, a rocket manufacturing facility in the Tula region. The Telegram news channel Astra noted that it could not verify whether this site, which has already been targeted twice this month, experienced further strikes.

These Ukrainian drone assaults coincided with reports from Kyiv officials that Russia executed its third extensive airstrike against Ukraine in as many nights, resulting in at least six fatalities and injuring around two dozen individuals over the last day.
