Tragic Loss: Australian Devoted Father David Clark Struck and Killed by Police Vehicle in London Emergency Response

David Clark, a “dedicated father,” was identified as the individual who tragically passed away after being struck by a police vehicle responding to an emergency in south London.

The 35-year-old Australian, residing in Winteringham, North Lincolnshire, was hit by the marked police car on Borough High Street at 00:34 GMT on January 7, according to the Metropolitan Police.

Despite receiving immediate first aid from officers and treatment from paramedics, Clark succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Amanda Rowe, director of the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which is looking into the incident, expressed condolences, stating, “We extend our heartfelt sympathies to Mr. Clark’s family and friends both in the UK and Australia, as well as to everyone impacted by his untimely passing.”

In a heartfelt message, Clark’s wife shared, “Our family is heartbroken by the sudden and tragic loss of my husband, David.

“My husband was more than a headline, a statistic, or a fleeting news story. He was a devoted husband, a caring father to our infant daughter, a son, a brother, and a beloved friend. His absence has created a profound and enduring emptiness in our lives.

“We kindly request that our privacy, along with that of our family and friends, is respected during this difficult time.

“Our priority is to care for our daughter, support one another, and honor David’s memory away from the public eye.”

The IOPC reported that two Metropolitan Police vehicles were traveling south on Borough High Street in response to an emergency, with their sirens activated and emergency lights flashing.

As the first police vehicle passed through the intersection at Great Suffolk Street and Trinity Street, it struck Clark, who was apparently crossing the road.

Both police vehicle drivers remained on the scene to provide assistance.

Rowe stated, “Given that a civilian has lost their life in an incident involving the police, an independent investigation is essential to clarify the complete circumstances.

“Our inquiry is in its initial phase, and the officers involved are currently regarded as witnesses.”
