The leader of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, has designated his 17-year-old son, Adam, as the secretary of the republic’s security council.
Adam Kadyrov’s role is featured on the Chechen Security Council’s website, which serves as an advisory entity focused on formulating strategies to address threats to the region’s economic and public safety.
On Monday, the Security Council of Chechnya announced that Secretary Adam Kadyrov facilitated a discussion with a senior emergency management official regarding safety breaches following an explosion at a local gas facility last week.
In a comparable position at the federal level, the Secretary of Russia’s Security Council is Sergei Shoigu, the former Minister of Defense. The Russian Security Council is led by President Vladimir Putin, while Ramzan Kadyrov heads the Chechen Security Council.
This appointment marks Adam Kadyrov’s third prominent role within Chechnya, where his father has wielded significant autonomy since 2007 in return for loyalty to the Kremlin.
Adam, who celebrated his 17th birthday in November, has been his father’s chief bodyguard since 2023. Additionally, he was appointed the chief advisor to the regional office of Russia’s Interior Ministry this month.
At just 15 years old in 2023, Adam Kadyrov was recorded attacking a Russian teenager who was incarcerated for allegedly desecrating a Quran.
He has since been honored with more than a dozen state awards from the Chechen authorities and neighboring Russian regions.
