Shocking Explosion: Van Driver Injured in Underground Car Park Collision in Wimbledon

A man sustained injuries when the van he was operating detonated upon colliding with the ceiling of an underground parking facility in south-west London, according to the Metropolitan Police.

Authorities were alerted to the explosion at a shopping center located on Queen’s Road, Wimbledon, at 10:10 GMT on Monday. The London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade (LFB) also responded to the incident.

The driver, a man in his sixties, received treatment for burns on site before being transported to the hospital, emergency services reported.

The ongoing investigation indicates that the event is not linked to terrorism, as stated by the Met, which mentioned that “the explosion occurred after the van reportedly made contact with the car park’s ceiling.”

The LFB noted that approximately 100 individuals were evacuated from the shopping center, with two fire engines deployed to the location.
