Jamaican sprinter Oblik Seville expressed his emotions following his victory in the 100-meter race at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo. He highlighted his satisfaction with achieving his personal best in that event.

— You recorded a time of 9.77 seconds, officially breaking the 9.80 barrier for the first time. Can you tell us more about this?
— It’s an incredible feeling because, for many years, I’ve shown that I am capable of running in the 9.70s, and today I proved it with my personal record of 9.77. It’s important to remember that it’s been nine years since Jamaica last won gold in this event, so it’s amazing to have lifted that curse and secured the gold medal, especially since the last person to do so was Usain Bolt, — Seville shared in an interview with Television Jamaica.

Additionally, it’s worth noting that in the final of the 2025 World Championships, Seville outpaced Olympic champion from the 2024 Paris Games, American Noah Lyles, who finished with the bronze medal in this event.
