On Sunday, Russia expressed its strong condemnation of the United States’ bombings of nuclear facilities in Iran, labeling the actions as “reckless” and a “serious breach of international law.”
The Russian Foreign Ministry stated in a press release, “It is already evident that a perilous escalation has commenced, which threatens to further destabilize both regional and global security.”
Earlier that day, the United States targeted three nuclear sites in Iran, aligning itself with Israel’s airstrikes after days of speculation regarding its involvement in the escalating conflict.
Following the operations, President Donald Trump declared, “Iran’s primary nuclear enrichment sites have been utterly destroyed. Iran, the region’s aggressor, must now seek peace.”
Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, criticized the U.S. actions as “shocking” and asserted that Iran has the right to defend its sovereignty.
He remarked on social media, “The events that transpired this morning are shocking and will yield lasting repercussions,” describing the strikes as “criminal and unlawful” acts.
Araghchi further stated that the United States and Israel have crossed “a significant threshold” with these attacks, and announced that he would travel to Moscow later that day for discussions with President Vladimir Putin.
