On Sunday, Russia announced that it had seized another town in the western part of Ukraine’s Donetsk region, as its military pushes towards the adjacent Dnipropetrovsk region.
The extensive invasion of Ukraine by Moscow has been ongoing for over three years, with military actions ramping up this summer, while negotiations led by the U.S. have so far failed to bring about a ceasefire.
According to Russia’s Defense Ministry, its forces captured the village of Myrne, which is referred to by its Soviet-era name, “Karl Marx.”
This village is situated near the border that separates the Donetsk region from Dnipropetrovsk.
The ministry asserted that Russian troops had penetrated deep into Ukrainian defenses to secure the village.
Myrne was one of two villages that Russia claimed control over on Sunday.
For several months, Russia has consistently rejected a ceasefire proposal from both the United States and Kyiv.
