Runners to Revel in Record-Breaking Sunny Weather at London Marathon as Spring Heats Up

Runners at the London Marathon on Sunday can look forward to sunny conditions as meteorologists predict the start of a warm and stable weather phase across a large portion of the UK.

The Met Office has indicated that temperatures in London could reach around 22°C on race day. The morning is expected to bring cooler, more pleasant temperatures for participants as they begin their journey.

In Manchester, which is also hosting a marathon on the same day, similar weather is anticipated. Expect sunny intervals and temperatures peaking at 17°C.

Oli Claydon from the Met Office expressed confidence that the weather will be favorable. “Both the Manchester and London marathons are likely to be dry. Morning temperatures shouldn’t pose any issues, but they will rise throughout the day.”

The overall weather forecast for the UK is diverse. Rain is expected to sweep through Northern Ireland and into the extreme western parts of Scotland and Cornwall overnight into Friday, accompanied by a southerly breeze.

Meanwhile, the central and eastern areas of the UK should remain dry, although patches of low cloud, mist, and frost may form overnight as skies clear.

On Saturday, a band of light rain is predicted to flow eastward across Scotland, England, and Wales, followed by some bright intervals, especially in the northern regions. Conditions are set to warm up and stabilize.

Sunday will bring dry weather and extended periods of sunshine to the southern and eastern UK, while northern areas may still experience sporadic showers and increased cloudiness.

By Monday, southeastern England could see temperatures climbing to 24°C, with further increases anticipated as warm air flows in from continental Europe, influenced by a blocking weather pattern featuring high pressure to the east and low pressure to the west of the UK.

By midweek, forecasts predict temperatures could reach between 25°C and 27°C in parts of southeastern and central England, potentially marking this year’s warmest weather thus far.

Although such warmth for April isn’t unusual, it would be the highest recorded since 2018. The UK’s April temperature record of 29.4°C, established in London in 1949, is likely to hold.

This warm spell is expected to continue into the following week, although some shifts in pressure systems may introduce cooler weather and a chance of showers in certain regions by next weekend.
