The 1970s marked a period of significant transformation in the East End communities of London.
As the city’s docks shut down, the local residents faced the loss of a foundational aspect of their way of life.
Meanwhile, new waves of immigrants were settling in, introducing diverse cultures and cuisines as they became integrated into the fabric of London.
Currently, an accessible exhibition featuring photographs from this transformative era is available in East London and will run until December.
The exhibition highlights the contributions of a generation of photographers who brought attention to the experiences of the working class, allowing local residents to see themselves and their communities reflected in the images, according to the Four Corners Gallery in Bethnal Green.
Titled “A World Apart: Photographing Change in London’s East End, 1970-76,” the exhibit can be found at the gallery on Roman Road until December 6th.
