Rage-Fueled Assault: Man Stabs Ex-Girlfriend’s Father to Death in Violent Confrontation, Court Hears

A man fatally stabbed his ex-partner’s father in a “violent” knife assault following a dispute with his former girlfriend, as presented in court.

Kamar Williams, 34, is accused of attacking 55-year-old bus driver Derek Thomas from Stoke Newington, north-west London, as Mr. Thomas was returning home from work. Williams has pleaded not guilty to murder.

Prosecutor Anthony Orchard KC detailed that on July 30, Williams was searching for Carron Thomas, his ex-girlfriend, but was unable to locate her.

The prosecutor explained that a WhatsApp exchange intended to discuss post-breakup arrangements turned hostile, causing tensions to escalate.

On the same evening that the messages were exchanged, Williams reportedly spotted Mr. Thomas carrying groceries while driving his van near the Thomas family residence.

Witnesses recounted seeing a man stop his vehicle in the roadway, exit, and assault Mr. Thomas before getting back in his van and leaving the scene.

Mr. Thomas, an employee of Go-Ahead London, was stabbed five times with a large blade.

He was declared dead on Northwold Road, Stoke Newington, less than thirty minutes after the attack.

Orchard noted, “The end of the defendant’s relationship with Carron Thomas seems to have prompted his actions.”

“After failing to find Ms. Thomas, he opted for a more accessible target: her father.”

“There is no doubt that the defendant was the assailant. Mr. Thomas was struck by the knife five times in what can only be described as a frenzied assault.”

“It must have been terrifying for Mr. Thomas.”

The defendant reportedly attempted to evade capture in the weeks following the incident before being apprehended on August 26 at the Notting Hill Carnival, according to the court.

Mr. Williams, residing on Cuba Street in Tower Hamlets, east London, also denies possessing a bladed weapon.

The trial, which is anticipated to last four weeks, is ongoing.
