Power Restored: Most London Underground Lines Resume Service Despite Mondays Disruption

Normal operations have returned on the majority of the London Underground lines following a significant disruption caused by a power outage on Monday afternoon.

According to Transport for London (TfL), services are now running smoothly on the Elizabeth, Jubilee, District, Northern, Waterloo & City, Circle, and Piccadilly lines.

Nevertheless, passengers on the Metropolitan line are experiencing considerable delays due to the prolonged completion of engineering work at Baker Street. Additionally, the Mildmay line on the London Overground is partially suspended due to a points fault.

TfL reported that the disruption on several lines on Monday stemmed from a brief power loss in southwest London around 14:30 BST, which resulted in cascading issues throughout the network.

This incident also led to a fire at an electrical substation located in the Cunningham Place and Aberdeen Place area of Maida Vale, as confirmed by a spokesperson from the London Fire Brigade.

Firefighters responded to the emergency at the substation and managed to extinguish the fire, but approximately three meters of high-voltage cable were damaged, according to the fire service’s report.

The National Grid has expressed regret regarding the inconvenience caused by the power disruption.

A representative stated, “The issue was resolved in a matter of seconds and did not affect the supply from our network. However, a resulting voltage drop may have momentarily impacted power supplies in the low voltage distribution network in the vicinity.”

“We sincerely apologize for any disturbances and continued travel challenges.”
