Peskov Hints at Possible Visit of Putin to the U.S. for 2026 World Cup

The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, **Dmitry Peskov**, responded to a question regarding the potential attendance of **Vladimir Putin** at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, should he receive an invitation from U.S. President **Donald Trump**.

“Why not,” Peskov was quoted as saying by “RIA Novosti Sport.”

Previously, Trump mentioned that he might invite Vladimir Putin to the upcoming tournament, noting that it would depend on how events unfold.

The 2026 World Cup will be held across three nations: the United States, Canada, and Mexico. A total of 48 national teams will participate, divided into 12 groups of four teams each. The teams that finish in the top two positions in each group, along with the eight best third-placed teams, will advance to the knockout stage.
