Odesa Under Fire: Casualties Rise as Russian Aerial Assault Strikes Port City Again

Officials reported on Friday that a recent aerial attack by Russia on Ukraine resulted in one fatality and over a dozen injuries, with the southern port city of Odesa being the primary target.

Images released by Ukraine’s emergency services showed firefighters assisting a woman in pajamas as she escaped from a window of a burning apartment building.

Law enforcement indicated that one individual lost their life, and 13 others sustained injuries in Odesa, including three rescue personnel who were affected during their efforts at the attack site.

Oleh Kiper, the Governor of Odesa region, stated, “The assault impacted residential structures, educational institutions, civilian amenities, and transportation systems.” He added, “Significant fires erupted but were promptly controlled by emergency responders.”

According to Ukraine’s air force, Russia launched a total of 86 drones in the offensive, with air defense mechanisms successfully intercepting 70 of them.

In contrast, Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed that its forces managed to eliminate at least 61 Ukrainian drones throughout the nation during the night.

Since President Vladimir Putin initiated a full-scale invasion in February 2022, Odesa, one of Ukraine’s major port cities, has been frequently subjected to Russian strikes.
