Russian air defense systems intercepted three drones as they neared Moscow on Tuesday evening, as reported by Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.
Sobyanin shared updates about the interceptions in two consecutive posts on Telegram around 5 p.m. local time (2 p.m. GMT).
He did not provide information regarding any potential casualties or ground damage.
The mayor also did not disclose the specific locations where the drones crashed, but emphasized that emergency teams were present to manage the debris.
The Russian Defense Ministry has not confirmed that its air defense systems were activated in or near Moscow.
Recent drone strikes aimed at Moscow occurred on December 4, November 28, and November 24.
Last week, Sobyanin claimed that Moscow possesses superior defenses against drone assaults compared to some of the most advanced nations.
Since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Moscow and its neighboring areas have been intermittently targeted by Ukrainian drone strikes.
