Massive Inferno Engulfs Erith Scrap Yard: 150 Firefighters Unite to Battle Blaze

Approximately 150 firefighters responded to a significant fire at an industrial site in south-east London.

The fire erupted in a warehouse located within a scrap yard on Maypole Crescent in Erith just before 11:00 PM BST on Friday.

According to the London Fire Brigade (LFB), three diggers and multiple vehicles were also engulfed in flames, but fortunately, there were no reported injuries.

The cause of the fire, which is currently under investigation, was brought under control by 6:52 AM.

Residents were advised to keep their windows and doors shut because of the heavy smoke in the vicinity.

A total of twenty-five fire engines were dispatched to the scene, accompanied by two 32-metre turntable ladders, which were utilized to gain an elevated perspective and deliver water from overhead, as noted by an LFB spokesperson.

Additionally, one of the brigade’s fireboats was mobilized to assist with firefighting efforts from the River Thames. This vessel has the capability to pump 2,500 litres of water per minute via its remote-operated monitors.

Fire crews from Bexley, Erith, Plumstead, East Greenwich, Sidcup, and other nearby stations were deployed following the initial emergency call, which was received at 10:47 PM.
