A fire in four railway arches in north London, which resulted in gas cylinder explosions, has prompted the closure of part of the London Underground system.
The blaze, located close to Roxeth Green Avenue in South Harrow, ignited around 01:20 BST and required 100 firefighters to manage the situation by 04:00, according to the London Fire Brigade (LFB).
The four railway arches, which accommodate businesses such as vehicle repair shops, suffered “complete destruction,” but there have been no reported injuries.
As a result, there are currently no Piccadilly line services operating between Uxbridge and South Harrow, with significant delays on westbound routes extending to Acton Town.
Roxeth Green Avenue, near the junction with The Arches, is also closed to traffic.
Graham Beers, the station commander for the LFB, stated that crews encountered a “substantial fire” upon their arrival.
He commented, “The teams worked incredibly hard to manage the fire and safeguard nearby properties. Sadly, four units have been entirely consumed by the flames.”
