The head coach of the Russian national team, **[Valery Karpin](https://www.championat.com/tags/715-valerij-karpin/)**, stated the condition under which goalkeeper Matvey Safonov could return to the national squad.

“If he is granted permission to enter or exit, we’re expecting him back in the team,” Karpin’s words were relayed by Championship correspondent Ilya Nikulnikov.

Matvey Safonov became a UEFA Champions League winner with French club PSG, which he joined in the summer of 2024. Earlier reports indicated that the goalkeeper had cleared all his child support debts owed to his ex-wife, allowing him to travel to Russia without restrictions. Safonov last played for the national team in June 2024 during a friendly match against Belarus, which ended with a score of 4-0.
