Former Formula 1 driver Jean Alesi shared his thoughts on McLaren’s request to their driver Oscar Piastri to give up second place to Lando Norris at the end of the Italian Grand Prix.
During McLaren’s only pit stop, Norris’s car was serviced for an extended period, causing him to lose his position on the track to his teammate Piastri. Following this, the team radio urged the Australian, who was leading the individual standings, to let Lando retake his place, which he complied with.
“When people ask me if I would relinquish my position while fighting for the title, my answer is yes, I would do the same. Because I am part of a team that has instilled its culture in every member. This culture leads to victories,” Alesi stated, as reported by FormulaPassion citing Corriere della Sera.
