Honda on the Brink of Losing Advantages for MotoGP Underdogs After 2025 Season Progress

The Japanese motorcycle manufacturer Honda is on the verge of losing its special privileges under the MotoGP regulations designed for underperforming manufacturers. Following notable improvements in the second half of the 2025 season, the brand needs to earn just 19 points in the final two races to lose its Group D status, which comes with maximum advantages. This information has been reported by Motorsport.

Under the current system implemented in 2023 to level the playing field in development opportunities, manufacturers are categorized into groups based on the percentage of points earned in the Constructors’ Championship. Honda, with a current score of 36.9%, finds itself right at the threshold of moving down to Group C, where stricter testing and development limitations apply.

The team’s progress has become particularly evident since the August race at the Red Bull Ring, where it has consistently scored over 19 points per race and even achieved podium finishes at Motegi and Sepang. Meanwhile, Yamaha, the second representative of Group D, will retain its status with only 29.8% of points.

The season finale in Portugal and Valencia will determine whether Honda can maintain the advantages that have supported its development during a challenging period. The update on privilege statuses will be made after the final race of the year.
