Three teenage girls have been taken into custody after they confessed to manslaughter in connection with the death of a 75-year-old man following a street assault that was recorded on a mobile device.

The girls, aged 15, 16, and 17, attacked Fredi Rivero near a bus stop in Islington, north London, on February 27, using pushing, shoving, kicking, and punching. One of the girls filmed the incident on her phone and took Mr. Rivero’s glasses during the assault.

Mr. Rivero, originally from Bolivia, was waiting at a bus stop on Seven Sisters Road when the teenagers exited a bus and encircled him.

Police discovered him unconscious on the sidewalk, suffering from a significant head injury and in cardiac arrest. He was rushed to the Royal London Hospital but unfortunately passed away the following day.

In court, the three girls were identified only as D1, D2, and D3 due to their ages, and they received detention sentences of four years, three and a half years, and two and a half years, respectively.

The victim’s daughter testified that it was not her father’s time to go and stated that his “death was forced upon him.”

Prosecutor Louise Oakley argued that the case presented by the Crown involved “unprovoked violence” from the three girls during the attack.

CCTV footage was shown in court, depicting the girls disembarking from a bus. Initially, Mr. Rivero made a peace sign, and while the girls initially walked away, they eventually returned to confront him again.
