The 57-year-old was treated on-site before being transported to the hospital via air ambulance. The extent of his injuries remains unclear at this time.

The event took place on Coventry Street, near Leicester Square.

Authorities have advised the public to steer clear of the area.

One bystander described the scene saying there was “terrifying screaming and people began to flee.”

“I witnessed someone covered in blood; they had been hit by something falling.”

The incident occurred outside a Pret a Manger at the intersection of Coventry Street and Whitcomb Street.

The bystander mentioned it appeared that construction work was underway at the building.
