Approximately 70 firefighters have been engaged in combating a grass fire spanning 14 acres in north-east London, as reported by the London Fire Brigade (LFB).

On Friday morning, ten fire engines along with a wildfire response vehicle were dispatched to Wanstead Flats, located near Capel Road in Manor Park.

At the scene, Station Commander Darren McTernan mentioned that the crews faced “challenging and hot conditions” while working to bring the blaze under control by around 15:15 BST. He also indicated that residents were still urged to steer clear of the area.

The brigade noted that more than 20 emergency calls were received, prompting the deployment of teams from East Ham, Stratford, Leyton, Barking, and nearby fire stations.

Local residents were advised to keep their windows and doors shut to minimize the risk of smoke entering their homes.
