A former lead singer of Spandau Ballet stated in court that the woman who accused him of raping her while she was unconscious is telling a “complete fabrication.”
Ross Davidson, 37, dismissed the allegations, including the assertion that he placed a bondage collar on her, as “utterly untrue.”
The woman, whose identity is protected for legal reasons, claims she awoke to find the singer assaulting her in London in March 2015. However, Davidson contends that they did not share a bed because there was “no chemistry” between them.
Currently residing in Finchley, north London, Davidson is also facing charges of attempted rape and sexual assault related to a tourist in Thailand in December 2019, all of which he firmly denies.
During cross-examination at Wood Green Crown Court on Wednesday, prosecutor Richard Hearnden inquired if Davidson had penetrated the alleged victim while she was asleep. Davidson vehemently refuted the claim and also denied having used a collar, claiming he had never even removed it from its packaging.
The woman further alleged that Davidson expressed a desire to engage in sexual acts with someone in a “still, lifeless, unresponsive” state, akin to a mannequin. Davidson suggested that her accusation was likely influenced by watching a series about serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.
Davidson, known under the stage name Ross Wild, has appeared in the Queen-themed West End musical We Will Rock You and performed as the lead singer for Spandau Ballet in 2018.
Despite a prior flirtation and engaging in video calls with the woman who accused him, Davidson insisted that no connection existed when she visited London in 2015, emphasizing that she slept on the sofa and they never shared a bed or room.
Describing himself as “sex positive,” Davidson explained to the jury that this perspective entails “open communication, embracing diverse sexual interests, and a willingness to explore various appetites.”
The trial is ongoing.
