Former midfielder of “Spartak,” Konstantin Golovsky, expressed his thoughts on the current squad of the red-and-whites.
“It’s surprising to me that last season, the team was built around Ugalde and Barco, while this season, Stankovich has chosen to focus on Zabolotny. The team’s play has been rather unclear, but when Ugalde returned and regained his form, things changed. If you want to have a recognizable style, there should be a core of seven or eight consistently performing players. However, under Stankovich, five players will feature in one match, while a different five play the next. This leads to a lack of cohesion. Just because significant money was spent on players doesn’t mean they will immediately perform well. Money doesn’t play football,” Golovsky stated in an interview with Championship correspondent Vladislav Kruglov.
