Russian grandmaster Andrey Esipenko was unable to secure a victory in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Chess World Cup, currently taking place in Goa, India. During the quarterfinal match, he drew with American chess player Sam Shankland.

The return match of the quarterfinal will be held tomorrow, November 18, starting at 12:30 PM Moscow time.

Russian chess players are participating in the tournament under a neutral status. Earlier, Russian grandmaster Ian Nepomniachtchi’s campaign for the title ended when he lost in the second round to Indian player Dipta Ghosh, who is ranked 237th in the FIDE ratings. Daniil Dubov and Alexey Grebnev were eliminated in the round of 16.
