Drunk Man Pleads Guilty to Disturbing Act of Throwing Kittens into Thames, Calls It Horrible

A man has confessed to discarding kittens from a bridge in west London into the Thames, declaring, “what I did was terrible.”

Andrew Shephard, aged 58, entered a plea of guilty to three charges of inflicting unnecessary suffering on a protected animal.

During a session at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court, it was revealed that on November 30, Shephard was on Twickenham Bridge with a box containing three kittens, which he then “flipped over the edge into the water.”

Prosecutor Jack Wadsworth explained that this act was witnessed by bystanders—one of whom succeeded in rescuing a kitten before it hit the water, while the other two fell in.

Witnesses reported hearing Shephard shouting, “let them die, I want them to die,” as the events unfolded, as outlined in court.

Following the incident, Shephard stated that he had been excessively intoxicated and struggled with alcohol dependency, claiming he did not intend to harm the animals but that his daughter could no longer care for them, Mr. Wadsworth noted during the hearing.

In his own defense, Shephard admitted, “I must say that I was completely out of it. I was absolutely wasted. I can’t really recall anything about what took place. I understand what I did was horrific, and I have to face myself in the mirror every morning knowing I acted completely against my usual behavior. I can’t say anything more than that.”

One of the kittens was taken in by a rescuer, while the other two were transported to a veterinary clinic in “poor condition,” the prosecutor mentioned.

Shephard, who does not have a permanent residence, is scheduled for sentencing on February 17 at the same court after a pre-sentence report is prepared.
