Drone Targets Russian Trade Mission in Sweden, Embassy Claims Vandalism Threats

On Tuesday, the Russian Embassy in Sweden reported that an unknown drone had dropped paint on the premises of its trade mission in Stockholm during the night.

According to a statement from the embassy, “The drone flew over the area and released a bag of paint in front of the main entrance to the Trade Representation.”

The embassy criticized the Swedish government for not fulfilling its obligations to ensure the safety of the embassy in accordance with international law.

The trade mission, which functions under the umbrella of the Russian Embassy in Stockholm, aids Russian exporters and businesses in accessing the Swedish market.

“The incident is part of a troubling pattern of similar occurrences that have targeted the Russian mission in Sweden, putting staff safety at risk and causing property damage,” the embassy stated.

Last month, Russia’s Foreign Ministry reported that its embassy in Stockholm had experienced at least 15 “drone attacks” since May 2024.

Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Foreign Ministry, implied that the Swedish government might have “condoned” these acts of vandalism against Russian diplomatic property in the country.

The Swedish police announced that they have initiated a preliminary investigation into one such event from last November and are looking into potential connections to a prior vandalism incident at the Swedish Embassy in Moscow.
