R&B artist Chris Brown has been taken into custody following his court appearance related to an alleged incident involving a bottle at a nightclub in London.
The American performer was apprehended at the Lowry Hotel in Manchester on Thursday and subsequently charged in connection with an alleged assault that reportedly occurred at the Tape club in Mayfair in 2023.
The 36-year-old is accused of inflicting serious injuries on music producer Abe Diaw using a bottle.
Brown was in Manchester ahead of his upcoming UK tour scheduled for June and July, which includes performances at Co-Op Live Arena in Manchester and the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.
During the court session, Brown, dressed in black joggers and a simple t-shirt, confirmed his full name, Christopher Maurice Brown, along with his date of birth.
When asked to verify his address, he stated that he was staying at The Lowry Hotel.
District Judge Joanne Hirst informed Brown that his case will be transferred to Southwark Crown Court in London, with the next hearing scheduled for 13 June.
She emphasized that the nature of the grievous bodily harm charge was too serious to be addressed in a magistrates’ court.
Brown was set to take the stage in Amsterdam on 8 June, followed by shows in Germany before his UK performances.
Supporters gathered outside the Manchester Magistrates’ Court ahead of the session.
One local fan shared with the BBC that she had scrapped her plans to spend the day outside the court.
Candy, 35, stated she has been a fan of the artist since she was 14 and struggled to sleep after hearing about his arrest.
“I’m just here to show my support,” she remarked. “I love his music and his voice. Even my kids are fans now.”
