Former Liverpool and England player **[Jamie Carragher](https://www.example.com/tags/1837-dzhejmi-karrager)** shared his thoughts on the club’s transfer strategy and the need for new signings in January.

“Liverpool will need to invest in January; they require a central defender. This move should have been made last summer, but it didn’t happen. They did sign one central defender, Giovanni Leoni, a young Italian talent, who looked outstanding in the match he played in the League Cup. Unfortunately, he suffered an ACL injury, meaning he won’t return until next season.

Essentially, Liverpool cannot afford another injury to a central defender, as that could jeopardize their season. Therefore, they will need to enter the transfer market in January. With significant financial investments and inconsistent performances, this doesn’t feel like the Liverpool I know… At least, it doesn’t reflect how the club has conducted its transfer dealings in recent years,” Carragher stated, according to Sky Sports.

After 11 matches played in the English Premier League, Liverpool has accumulated 18 points and is currently in eighth place in the standings.
