President Vladimir Putin conducted routine exercises for strategic nuclear forces on Wednesday, as reported by the Kremlin.
The Kremlin shared footage showing Putin monitoring intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) tests being launched from land, sea, and air while he sat alone in the presidential situation room.
These tests featured the launch of a Yars ICBM from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome aimed at the Kura test site in the Kamchatka area, with the missile capable of reaching distances of up to 11,000 kilometers.
Additionally, a Sineva ballistic missile was launched from the Bryansk nuclear submarine in the Barents Sea, and Tu-95MS long-range bombers executed launches of air-to-surface cruise missiles, according to the statement.
“The training exercise fully achieved all of its objectives,” the Kremlin noted.
General Staff Chief Valery Gerasimov informed Putin that the drills aimed to rehearse “the process for authorizing and deploying nuclear weapons.”
Putin had also supervised similar strategic forces exercises in October 2024 and October 2023.
